Signs That You Need a Pool Filter Repair

Summer is here, so it’s time to change your pool filter, vacuum the pool and use bleach. It will be surprising to see how much dirt and grime a pool can accumulate over the winter. The pool collects dirt, algae, and slime if it is not covered with a tarpaulin.

What Is a Pool Filter?

A pool filter system is composed of a pump as well as a filter. The pump draws water from the skimmer(s), located on the pool wall, as well as the main drain(s), on or near the bottom of the pool.

The water flows through the pump to the filter. This removes dirt, bacteria, and debris. The water is then filtered and flows through the plumbing to the filter. It returns to the pool via the return jets located on the pool walls.

The main purpose of a pool filter is to remove debris from the pool water so it remains clear and clean.

These are the signs that a pool filter repair is needed:

  • Pressure problem: When the filter is in use, the pressure gauge must read normal. The valve should read “0” when the filter is turned on. If the pressure is higher than normal, the filter is dirty.
  • Filter leak: Another common problem with clamshell-type pressurized swimming pool filters is filter leak. Both cartridge-type and DE pool filters have a clamp band that holds the two halves together. The filter will stop working if the clamp band leaks.
  • Dirty water can be caused by poor filtration, sanitation or circulation. This should be addressed immediately.
